Some places hold you before you ever arrive. Winding Bay is one of them.

My grandfather, Burt Morgan, first set eyes on this stretch of Eleuthera in the early 1960s — and by the time he left, he had claimed the lot he called the finest beachfront building site in the world. He wasn’t wrong. In 1967, as one of the founding members of Cotton Bay Club, he commissioned this house to be built right here on the bay, and our family has been returning ever since.

The house itself was designed by my father, an architect and structural engineer who shaped every detail with intention. Growing up, I spent summers here — barefoot on that beach, snorkeling the reef, falling asleep to the sound of the water. Winding Bay didn’t just become a place I loved. It became part of how I understood the world.

When I took stewardship of the property, I knew I wanted to honor everything that had been built — not just the house, but the feeling of it. Over three years, we reimagined Hightide from the ground up. We modernized without sanitizing. We added solar power with battery backup and maintained the rainwater cisterns so the home treads lightly on this island we love. We kept the bones, the stories, and the soul completely intact.

My daughters are the fourth generation to walk this beach. Watching them discover the same magic I did — the wild color of that water, drinking straight from a coconut, building sand castles, learning to swim, eating a lobster dinner caught just offshore by their dad — that’s everything.
